Background: The University of California, Riverside (UCR) is a public research
university and one of the 10 general campuses of the University of California
System. UCR’s electrical engineering program is ranked top 50 in the U.S. UC
R has one of the best energy research facility in the United States. With more
than 10 million dollar donation, Winston Chung Global Energy Center at the En
vironmental Research & Technology started the sustainable integrated grid init
iative that allows the students and researchers to develop improved energy sys
tems for the future. The system incorporates 4 MW of photovoltaics, 2 MW of en
ergy storage, smart grid protocols and a 20 unit city-wide electric transporta
tion system.
I am seeking self-motivated and creative Ph.D. candidate to conduct research i
n the following areas, Big Data Analytics in Power System, Smart Grid Technolo
gy, Renewable Integration, Energy Forecasting and Electricity Market. The succ
essful candidate could start as early as Jan 2015. The application deadlines f
or the Winter quarter and the Spring quarter are July 1st 2014 and Oct 1st 201

Preference of Research Assistant positions and Fellowship positions will be gi
ven to candidates who have earned a M.S. degree in power engineering. However,
outstanding candidates with B.S. degree will also be considered for direct Ph
.D. program.

ications, GRE and TOEFL score, and names of three references. Candidates with
great programming skills, strong mathematical background and prior research ex
