发信站: 饮水思源 (2014年10月15日00:06:35 星期三)

Yang Wang is looking for students who are interested in distributed systems, i
ncluding fault tolerance, large-scale storage systems, big data processing, et
c. The applicants are expected to be self-motivated and have strong programmin
g skills in Java or C. Two to three RA positions will be provided to students
starting at 2015 fall.

Yang is currently a Ph.D. student at the University of Texas at Austin working
with Drs Lorenzo Alvisi and Mike Dahlin. He will be joining the Ohio State Un
iversity in 2015 spring. He has published multiple papers in top conferences i
ncluding OSDI/SOSP, NSDI, and USENIX ATC. He is the recipient of the 2013 Goog
le Ph.D. Fellowship in Distributed Computing. Previously he got both his bache
lor’s and master’s degrees from Tsinghua University. Please see his homepage
http://www.cs.utexas.edu/~yangwang/for more information.

The CSE department of OSU has a strong system group including the chair Dr. Xi
aodong Zhang working on storage systems, database, etc, and Dr. Feng Qin worki
ng on storage systems and system reliability. The department is also strong in
related areas such as networking, computer architecture, and high performance
computing. The students will have plenty of opportunities and flexibilities t
o join collaborating projects with others.

OSU is located in downtown of Columbus, the capital of Ohio and the 15th large
st city in the US, with a population of about 800,000 including a pretty large
Chinese community (and as a result, quite a lot of Chinese restaurants). Diff
erent from a college town, Columbus also has a prosperous industry in banking,
insurance, and retail. The weather here has clear four seasons. Although loca
ted in the north, winter snowfall here is relatively light, since the city is
not in the typical path of strong winter cold air. For sports fans, the footba
ll and basketball teams of OSU are always among the top in NCAA, and Columbus
is about two hours drive from Cleveland.

If you are interested, please send your CV to yangwang@cs.utexas.edu. And Yang
will be visiting SJTU this Friday (Oct 17th) so that you may have a chance to
meet with each other.
