GENERAL SUMMARY
Provide technical guidance and solution design assistance in support of global
BRS presales activities. This includes design and/or consultative review of e
xisting architectures while driving architectural convergence, encouraging arc
hitectural excellence and consistency, and collaborating on new architectures
within the team, product spaces and business unit. Provides technical and/or b
usiness consultative services during the pre-sales and/or post-sales cycle. Pr
ovides technical or business analytical direction and recommendations for spec
ific product groups or business objectives in order to improve the total custo
mer experience
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
◾ Align with account teams sales approach and sense of urgency while ass
isting sales teams and cross functional stakeholders in the planning and desig
n of BRS solutions.
◾Leverages the latest EMC BRS product and competitive product knowledge
in BRS solution design and quality assurance activities
◾Develops strong value add relationships spanning presales, engineering,
delivery, leadership teams and cross functional stakeholders both within and
across business units
◾Leverages relationships to facilitate knowledge transfer to sales teams
, customers, engineering and delivery
◾Researches, comprehends, maintains and utilizes EMC and industry awaren
ess in matching customers business requirements to EMC BRS solutions that meet
and exceed customer expectations
◾Champions improvements in product spaces based on metrics obtained prov
iding presales consultation
◾Drive presales efficiency by providing solution design guidance and rep
eatable solutions in the form of both custom and reference architectures
◾Maintains a global repository of repeatable solutions
◾Ensures effective coordination and communication between internal techn
ical teams engaged to increase consultation value
◾Ensures proposed solutions when implemented will address the requiremen
ts of the business applications they support
◾Contributes to training curriculum and conference content and aids in t
he delivery of that content
◾Presents business value and metrics to internal teams
◾Provides key input to develop methodologies for evaluating current and
future products within their practice
◾Actively works to educate others on BRS design use cases, potential pro
blems and resolutions. Responsible for sharing information and best practices
with others. May be required to support and instruct less experienced co-worke
rs, through classroom training sessions or on-the-job mentoring
◾Proactively alerts Product Managers, Project Managers and sales team of
potential problems based upon strong working knowledge of software/hardware c
ompatibility and solution scalability within the context of the customer's env
ironment
◾Function as the lead technical expert in the pre-sales qualification an
d is responsible for the evaluation of the technical architectural design, str
ategies and plans that will be a delivered in the engagement.
◾Performs other duties as assigned
Required Skills
◾ Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including
facilitation skills and relationship development skills with both technical an
d non-technical personnel
◾Ability to clearly and concisely communicate (written and oral) technic
al information to both technical and non-technical audiences
◾Must have experience sizing Backup and Recovery solutions
◾Must possess a working knowledge of the principles of customer service
backed by experience
◾ Understanding of EMC's portfolio and its value to the customer
◾ Strong industry knowledge inclusive of similar technologies offered by
other storage and Backup/Recovery solution vendors
◾Ability to collaborate, communicate, cooperate and work effectively in
a diverse team environment
◾Ability to see the big picture, conceptualize and document creative sol
utions
◾Initiative to constantly seek and acquire knowledge of emerging technol
ogies
◾Experience evaluating customer requirements and working collaboratively
in the development of solutions that lead to revenue
◾Relevant experience in the design, administration, installation, and su
pport of Backup and Recovery solutions that span multiple locations
Qualifications:
◾Bachelors Degree in computer science, related field of study or equival
ent industry experience
◾2+ years experience in an industry related and job relevant consulting
role
◾Advanced level experience with NetWorker, Avamar, Data Domain, HomeBase
and DPA
◾Experience implementing, maintaining and protecting multiple business c
ritical messaging and database application environments
◾BRS product certification strongly desired
◾ Technology consultant level experience strongly considered
